Be Who You Are!

This morning we finished creating and signing our class rules:

  • Listen with your eyes and ears.
  • Use kind words.
  • Keep your body to yourself.
  • Take care of our classroom.
  • Have Fun!

I introduced the structure of Reader's Workshop and we completed our first mini lesson on voice level.  We will continue to add to the chart as we learn more classroom routines and the appropriate voice level.

Students practiced independently reading for 8 minutes and then I read the book Be Who You Are by Todd Parr and we discussed how we are all different and that should be celebrated.  We also watched a video from Sesame Street about the newest character, Julia who as Autism.

We also had our first number talk.  We looked these image of dots and focused on the way that we saw the dots versus how many.
